South Arm Market photographic display

It's the people, the place and the vibe

Ian Sale has been taking photos at the South Arm Community Market as a volunteer for five years. That’s hundreds of images showcasing the vast array of factors that combine to that make this event so special and ever-popular with locals, visitors and stallholders alike.

To preserve the market’s stories, Ian has created six themed montages which now grace the Community Centre walls, the first in a series of new displays that document our history and celebrate our community spirit. People are fascinated by them, every time you look at one you discover something new!

Ian retired from this role after the January market saying it’s time for him to experience it as a visitor. The SAPRA Committee, market team and our community heartily thank Ian for his work capturing and preserving so many wonderful memories for our community.

Ian says of the job...
“This is one of the best volunteer gigs there is...I have really enjoyed the role. For a keen photographer it’s an opportunity to extend your skills but more than that, you’re part of one of our great local institutions and a great team.”

“ It’s a privilege to have been asked to take photos of this wonderful event. It also allows me to meet people who do a wide range of interesting things.... I’ve not just improved my photography but learnt so much more from the people I’ve met.”
